I have great
misgivings about stepping into the issues before us concerning abortion. I have
never walked in the shoes of a 16-year-old girl and so I don’t have the
perspective that drives pro-choice advocates in our society. I also don’t see a
rollback of Roe v. Wade, ever.
But, I do
draw a line when I hear of legislation being proposed in Virginia. In fact, it
makes me ill to think about it.
Babies are
born after three tri-mesters, the third starting at around 28 weeks. Successful
births have occurred after 26 weeks, but it far from a sure thing.
So there’s
the background…
Now to the
matter…A proposed law in Virginia will allow termination of the fetus right up
to the moment of its birth. The governor even incredibly told a radio
interviewer that the baby could be actually born , kept warm and comfortable
while the doctor and the parents decide whether to kill it.
That’s just
too much for me to process. Is there any real argument left as to whether or
not this is a human being and deserving of the protection we give all citizens?
If someone hurts the baby, aren’t they open to prosecution? I think they should
be.
There are
hundreds if not thousands of American couples seeking adoption and we are
killing that hope. This is pro-choice on steroids and can’t be allowed to
become law anywhere in this country.
