An Illinois
State Senator evoked the name of George Orwell last week. It was an appropriate
use of his name…
.
Edwardsville
Republican Senator Jason Plummer was railing on two different pieces of
legislation designed to abuse legal gun owners in Illinois. That’s a
fashionable thing to do with a Democratic majority in both houses of the
legislature and a Democrat in the Governor’s mansion.
Plummer used
the Orwell reference when addressing two proposed laws. You will remember the
author of the book “1984” where a future governmental culture included “Big
Brother” watching over us depriving our society of any privacy.
House Bill
888 and Senate Bill 107 exist and threaten the second amendment rights, in my
view. House bill
888 forces Illinois gun owners to give state agencies access to their personal
social media accounts for merely considering exercising their right to own a
firearm.
The Senate
bill takes aim at the sale or the unregistered possession of dozens of
semi-automatic firearms. The bill also proposes additional fees and consent to
a registry or risk criminal penalties.
This includes guns passed down from fathers to sons. If you don’t register
them, you risk a felony and prison time.
This is
governmental overreach at a grand scale. And it wouldn’t surprise me if it
glides through the legislature…and lands gently under the pen of a willing governor.
Gun owners
need to voice their opposition.
