I live next
to a thriving business. At least it was two weeks ago. Now it’s just a house.
This virus
is wreaking havoc on most businesses right now. If you are not deemed
“essential,” your ability to make a living is on hold.
Jenny Lee
runs Jenny’s Cottage Town Salon right next door. It has always hummed with
business. That’s where I get my hair cut…..and I willingly pay full price
despite my follicly challenged head. I’m
sure this thing is costing her dearly.
Jenny’s
customers must do without her services until at least May. Whether they like it
or not they must adhere to the orders of our Governor, who closed the state for
the month of April. I’m not willing to argue the merits of the shutdown.
I am willing
to take a shot at the leader who shares the podium with him almost every
day….the mayor of Chicago. Her-honor stepped in it big this week. Mayor Lori
Lightfoot broke her own stated policy to social distance and got a hair cut at
a salon. Unlike Fairfield, there apparently is one open in Chicago.
When chided
about it by the media, she said, and I quote, “I take my personal hygiene very
seriously.” Nowhere near as good as Lincoln’s quote when he was charged with
hypocrisy. He said: “If I were two-faced…would I be wearing this one?”
Ms. Mayor…If
you are going to talk the talk….best to walk the walk.
