We are
fortunate in Wayne County to have a superb infrastructure of passionate
historians who collect and memorialize the area’s rich past.
Here, at the
radio station, we are enthused to be a small part of making history less of a
mystery.
First, starting
Monday--Memorial Day--- we will start a regular feature on our morning show
researched and written by the Wayne County Historical Society. The feature is
being produced by Colin McDuffee. It will run ahead of the seven o’clock news
on weekdays on WFIW, 104.9 FM and wfiwradio.com.
We are
excited by this partnership.
On another
front, I hope to see you tonight or Saturday night at Maple Hill Cemetery for
an inspiring look into the lives of some of our most notable war veterans.
The “Service
and Sacrifice” Cemetery Tour will occur between 4:00 and 6:30 each night. Our
own Derek Dunn and I will take part----Derek portraying Jack C. Caudle, a
Marine who served in World War II. My role is that of William Miles Branson,
who left Fairfield at the height of the Civil War and fought for Union forces.
I’m not an
actor…..Quite honestly this is way outside of my comfort zone….but I was
honored to be asked and inspired by the people who did all of the hard work to
produce this tribute to our local military heroes.
The admission
is minimal and the funds raised will help in the ongoing efforts to preserve
and illuminate Wayne County history.
I think it
is the perfect way to start your Memorial Day weekend.
