Removing All Doubt

This week Rush Limbaugh announced he was suffering from advanced lung cancer to his radio audience. Almost instinctively, at that moment, I thought….how many people will be tasteless enough to post joy over the news on social media?

It didn’t take long….  We have engendered a generation of gutless wonders who, given a keyboard, can spew hatred without fear of reprisal. That’s because, while such posts are disgusting, intelligent people won’t get into the mud and roll around with half-wits.
Here’s an example of a few of the comments tweeted after Limbaugh made his announcement.

Former CNN host Reza Asian said—“There is absolutely no question whatsoever that the world is better without him in it.”

Comedian Johnny McNulty tweeted it was not cool to joke about Limbaugh’s cancer since one might “jinx” it.

…and Writer Jon Taylor wished the haters a chance to kick Limbaugh’s corpse once he is dead.

I guess we have reached a tipping point where there is no clutch between the liberal brain and the mouth. Even if I thought these things, I would never say it out loud. I would hope that to be a majority view.

I wish Rush well as he faces this challenge in his life.

This whole episode reminds me of a quote attributed to both Lincoln and Twain. It goes something like this:

“Better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.”

  1. I'm not really sure why you seem to think this is just a liberal issue. The internet can be a nasty place sometimes. You do get that the President regularly attacks people in nasty ways in his tweets, right? I would think, by the regularity with which you have to delete or ban people from this page, you would realize that both sides get heated and say some rather rude things.

I see you're doing your part to raise the discourse in this piece as well, by referring to people as "gutless wonders." Like how you've also called people snowflakes. Just last week you made an us vs. them argument about trans folks getting Medicaid, as if they were somehow going to jump the line and threaten the folks already on Medicaid.

Clean up your own act before you start getting all indignant about how other people are behaving. The Rush stuff IS disgusting. Rush himself was a pretty disgusting guy and that kind of behavior comes back around. That reciprocal nature of attack and be attacked might even be why so many people approach these commentaries with such a mean spirit at times. Just think about what you're doing with your platform here.
