Fairfield
Mayor Brent Maguire wants a new hotel in town. I’m with him. .
The addition
of the new bed and breakfast on Main helps….but there are very few suitable
hotel rooms inside a city that possesses top notch athletic facilities. I mean,
look at the baseball and softball fields, the numerous basketball venues….
All could be better utilized during the year to bring in tournaments.
And that’s
only a small part of the current and potential market.
I recently stood
behind six Frontier baseball players at a local grocery store getting food. In
total, there are 50 FCC baseball players. That means 100 parents looking for
hotel space when they come to visit junior during the fall and spring seasons.
And there’s a volleyball team with at least 14 players. You see? Where do those
family members stay now? Would they like an upgrade in their choices?
The way it
is explained to me, the company that Mayor Maguire is courting likes to find
local investors to share the risk. I believe those folks could be found. A
study done by the city pretty much puts in black and white the need for the
rooms.
Fairfield
has its problems. But this is a big fat opportunity and I am pleased to hear of
the efforts to recruit a new hotel and encourage the idea of making the city a
destination town for young parents who travel with their children for athletics
including baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball and quite possibly dance.
This could also benefit efforts like the “Paint-Out,” and other cultural
endeavors.
I’m pulling
for the Mayor and the City Council to get this done.
