"A Leader For Her Team And Her Time"

I support Megan Rapinoe’s right to speak out as the leader of the U.S. women’s world championship soccer team. Rapinoe has a first amendment right to say anything that enters her head and filters down, unclutched, to her mouth.

I don’t agree with her views…but I defend her right to spout them.
She is now the darling of the left, courted by each of the Democratic Presidential candidates for an endorsement. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow thinks she should run herself for the highest office in the land. The New York Times described her as a “leader for her team and her time.”

I don’t agree with Rapinoe’s taking a knee for the national anthem. I shudder when someone says they won’t go to the “f-ing White House.” (Her words) I cringe when the captain of our world cup team grabs it in one hand, grabs a bottle of champagne in the other and shouts to a television camera, “I deserve this.”

I was always told there is no “I” in team.

But this is a new breed of American. One that doesn’t feel the country is exceptional. They idolize people like Rapinoe and Colin Kaepernick.

You know, I had a woman walk up to me in a local eatery on Sunday and say she doesn’t agree with these commentaries on a regular basis. I told her that was just fine. Maybe it made her think more about the issue as it was presented.

But here’s what Megan Rapinoe says about dissent. Talking to Anderson Cooper on CNN, she said she would be willing to have a “substantial conversation” with “anyone….who “believes the same things” she does. She also said, as a nation, we have to “love more and hate less. Listen more and talk less.”

I think she might want to listen to her own advice.

  1. “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world, now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came...”

The President just spent the weekend telling four Congresswomen of color to go back to their own countries, which for three of them is the United States. When the racial insensitivity of it was pointed out, he doubled down. He's also keeping kids in cages and had a lawyer from his Justice Dept. arguing that detained children don't need toothbrushes, soap, blankets, or even sleep. 6 kids have died since September. Others have gone missing.

He has done this kind of thing regularly throughout his presidency and even before then, choosing to divide and alienate people rather than bring them together. I wouldn't want to spend time with him either. And since those conditions began under Obama, the same goes for him.

It's not about America not being exceptional. It's about seeing America divided among deeply harmful lines and desiring for it to be better for all of its citizens. Burying our heads in the sand and ignoring the very real problems in our country isn't going to make things better. The same way that wringing your hands about what sports stars say doesn't actually accomplish anything but just causes people to dig in further.

  2. Well said overall. However, I'm getting pretty darn tired of supporting the rights of people who want to take my rights and freedom. Too long have we put up with Antifa, #MeToo, the "Squad" (AOC and her 3 scatterbrained America hating co-Freshmen)! I urge everyone who feels like me to get active, campaign for your candidate, attend rallies supporting what you believe in, counter-demonstrate/protest at rallies of people whose philosophies and programs you don't believe in -- now is the time to become an active participant -- those that disagree with what you believe are active and if you don't get active pretty soon you won't need to work about your rights and others rights - only the elite leftists will have them and you'll be left without. It's time to fight or get out of the way for those who will.

  3. Oh stop with the "I will defend her right to say whatever" bull, we all know you are just saying that. You don't have any intention in defending free speech in any way. It honestly goes against your beliefs. Oh, just stop.

Rapinoe did deserve that cup, she also deserves a pay increase. She makes so much less than the mens team every year. The womens team work on a tiny budget compared to the men and a few years ago they were forced to play on fields that actively cut up their legs. She deserves to celebrate a victory.

Also, since when did criticizing something become hating it? People criticize the things they love to make them better. You have to know your faults if you are going to overcome then and be better. That is what the US needs. We have faults, we have many. We also have four new and very active politicians that are willing to do that, even though disgusting people like "Unknown" and yourself are constantly trying to shout them down. You don't want them to talk. You want them to step in line! You want blind obedience. You want America to stop being America and honestly, it is really depressing.

I want you to step back Mike, I want you to attempt to say something nice about the other side. I want you to stop this tribalism and attempts to divide us just so you can push your personal brand of politics and your choice in politicians. You did it once with Bailey, you are trying to do it again with Musgrave. You are a shill and always will be until you can prove to us that you actually care about the country and the people in it. Because quite frankly, I am not seeing it Mike.

    1. You might be surprised to hear that Mike Dreith actually called for the female soccer players to make as much as their male counterparts on yesterday's Morning Coffee. He likened it to Wimbledon players.

Oddly enough, this puts him on the same page as Snoop Dogg.
