We Just Keep Digging

I will to admit something. I can’t keep up with the litany of proposals to raise my taxes…..the proposals just keep coming from Springfield…..I can’t keep up.

As Illinoisans, we are already taxed to the hilt….and we just keep adding to the state’s debt.

There’s the Governor’s tax proposal which I’m sure will get into my pocket book. But his party is going after my money in so many other ways. The Democrats also want a gas tax hike. One proposal would make the average motorist pay as much as $200 per year in additional gas taxes. Chicago’s mayor is calling for doubling the per gallon tax we pay at the pump.

There’s a proposal rain tax---a way for everyone to pay for drainage and water retention.

This week a proposal emerged to have a five percent tax on streaming online service and satellite television. Of course it was proposed by a Chicago Democrat, who is promising the state will split the bounty with local municipalities.

I could come up with a list of ridiculous ideas for more taxes in Illinois….but I’m afraid to….I’m afraid this commentary will get forwarded to the Speaker and we could see a meat consumption tax, a restroom utilization fee or the human respiration tax, where we pay per breath.

I have a radical idea……
.
How about cutting services? How about closing a few buildings? Letting a few people go?

You can’t tax your way out of this deep of a hole.

But we just keep digging.
