If I sound
stunned…and angry….that would be accurate.
The new
governor has joined forces with his Democratic State Treasurer to offer federal
employees $100-million dollars in loans because they have missed out on a
couple of paychecks. That’s right…the state that is behind by billions of dollars
in paying its own bills…but has found $100-million to spread around, like
candy.
But don’t worry…the
new governor wants you to know the money is coming from an “investment
portfolio.” And he wants you to know it
isn’t costing us anything. State Treasurer Mike Frerichs says this is liquid
money from the state’s 12-billion dollars in investments and will not affect
the day-to-day operation of the state.
First of
all---that money is my money----it is your money. Its money we could
have invested if we hadn’t given it to our corrupt leaders at the state
capitol. How do you have “liquid” money when you owe over $200-billion in
pension liability and unpaid bills? This is money laundering done Springfield
style.
I am sorry
for the 8000 federal employees in Illinois who have been impacted in this power
struggle between the two political parties. But don’t worry…if past practice is
followed…they will get paid, once the partial shutdown is ended whether they
continued working or were furloughed.
This is the
new governor, playing to his base, acting like the state is his own very substantial piggy
bank. It isn’t. We are dead last in most surveys assessing our solvency
and our bonds are approaching junk status.
But those
facts seem to have escaped our new leader.
He’s the
candy man.
So legitimately Mike, what would you prefer happen to those Federal employees that are missing out on checks? You know, the folks who might miss rent or buying groceries or car payments or any number of other things? This shutdown is complete financial murder on the folks out there living paycheck-to-paycheck, which is anywhere from 50 to 80% of Americans, obviously not all of them are government workers, based on the particular statement. Do they just stop paying their bills and everything else while the Dems and Reps keep making a game out of folks' lives? I think that if they stop paying for things, life would suddenly get and already has gotten significantly worse for those workers. Not all of them live paycheck-to-paycheck, but almost everyone needs the money from their jobs. I get wanting to complain about Illinois mismanaging money like it tends to do, but these are people's lives in the balance.
