As a rule, I
don’t watch professional football.
The NFL lost
me as a customer when it lied and cheated the good people of St. Louis, aiding
and abetting Stan Kroenke in his move of the Rams to LA. The lies and
deceptions were pervasive. That did it for me.
For others,
it was the way the league handled the whole ”taking a knee” controversy when
players publicly showed disrespect to our flag.
But Sunday’s
conference championship game pitting the now LA Rams against the New Orleans
Saints might be enough to make people question whether or not this is actually
sport, or sports entertainment like wrestling…..or the scripted version of
Roller Derby.
I was at
Union Station in St. Louis and walked by a TV set at exactly the right time to
see it. The quarterback for New Orleans, threaded a pass to one of his
receivers with only a minute and some change left on the clock. It was a
critical time and play. Before the ball could land in the receivers’ hands, he
got clobbered by a Ram defensive back. The seven officials missed the obvious
pass interference and a rule outlawing helmet on helmet collisions. Even the
NFL admits they blew it.
I used to
watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. Not this year….
I haven't watched a single NFL play (or game) for 2 years because of the NFL'S stance on the National Anthem.
