Does A Wall Mean Security?

So, like him or not, the President promised a wall on our southern border throughout his campaign….and he is going to shut down the government to do it.

Standing in his way will be Illinois Senator Dick Durbin and probably every Democrat in Congress. Durbin pontificated on his feelings this week during a Judiciary Subcommittee hearing.

I don’t think the Senator can have it both ways.

On one hand he admits there is a drug epidemic, much of which flowing across the US-Mexican border…and that weapons and cash are flowing southward from the US to drug cartels inside Mexico. Our border is a sieve.

But Durbin is against building a wall. All of the Democrats are against it. Trump ran on it…so it is more of a political issue than it is a financial or engineering issue.
Trump wants a little over $5-billion dollars for a physical wall. Durbin and his colleagues want a technological wall----in other words---ways to prevent people and money going across the border through high tech detection and maybe even boots on the ground.

Durbin says Trump’s wall is “wasteful and ineffective.” But that’s hard to say when we have miles and miles of free access into our country. And, it is hard to argue with the fact that drug overdoses killed over 70,000 Americans last year.

I do not have a red hat. I don’t have a “Make America Great Again” tattoo…I do think a wall insuring the security of the nation is a reasonable idea.

And, with all due respect to Senator Durbin….I hope the president gets his way.
