The Trump Bump?

I’m Mike Dreith and Talk Isn’t Always Cheap.

President Donald Trump has been in office over 500 days now. And while he can take a bow for some rather startling economic gains, things don’t seem to get better here, where his support in the election was remarkably strong.

Let’s state the facts directly to the Oval Office.

Mr. President, you got 84-percent of the electorate  to vote for you in Wayne County, the highest percentage in the entire state of Illinois. In a decidedly blue state, Wayne County stood up for you, sir. So, we need your attention for a moment.

Airtex is all but gone. The plant is for sale. The jobs went to other countries. When you lose 800 jobs in a town of 5000, it starts a domino effect which leads to higher taxes, utilities and unemployment. If you walked through downtown Fairfield, Mr. President, you’d see important businesses closing their doors.

If it weren’t for education and healthcare, things would be dramatically worse.
Young residents are asking our Mayor to lead an initiative to help find jobs. They can see the handwriting on the wall. It is time for all of us to unite. The Chamber, leaders from our city, county and state government. We need a unified front….

And, Mr. President, we need your help. We are calling in our markers. We supported you. Now, we need your help.

We need jobs.

Hello (knock, knock), are you listening sir? Come to Fairfield, stick it to the Democrats that run Illinois and show them the power of the presidency. Show them that your policies are making it possible for us to see a future for our community.

I am sending this commentary to you at the White House and to several of your  key advisors in hopes it might get some needed attention to the problem that exists in our region.
Will it do any good?

It can’t hurt.

That’s my view and Talk Isn’t Always Cheap.
