The Illinois
State Police have placed Trooper Scott Quirum on restricted duty and are
investigating an incident in which he was involved.
I have to
say, if the facts remain the same, I can’t quite understand the ruckus.
Let’s go to
the video. In it, the trooper is moving up slowly on a car at 2:00 am in an
unconsolidated area north of Peoria. Once he gets to the car, he re-holsters
his weapon and stats yelling at the inhabitants. I can’t make out the
language…but I think I know what I would say in a similar situation.
As Paul
Harvey used to say….here’s the rest of the story.
Inside the
car was the trooper’s 14-year-old daughter. She was in the car with two
18-year-old men. I never had a daughter…but I think I can probably piece
together the likely verbiage used by the officer directed at the two men.
Remember, it’s two AM.
The parents
of the men are pushing for the investigation. An attorney for Trooper Quirum
says it is easy to explain. He was greatly concerned for his minor daughter,
who likely used poor judgement in being out…and being in the car with two men.
You know
cops are real people too. For a moment, put yourself in Scott Quirum’s shoes.
I’m sure I would have a few choice words for the inhabitants of that car….all
of them. In fact, I might not have been quite as reserved.
I think the
trooper is guilty.
Guilty of
trying to protect his daughter.
