True Reform Begins With Term Limits

The Democrats have announced their idea of ethics reform in Illinois. They also don’t want to do anything until after the November election. They say they want term limits for legislative leadership….but they aren’t interested in it for every member of the General Assembly.

To quote Republican Representative John Cabello: “Talk is cheap.” He says corruption in the statehouse is rampant and in need of immediate action.

I looked over the proposed reforms by the Democrats and agree with most. They attack lobbying reform, the mandated disclosure of lawmaker’s outside income, more starch in the ability of the Inspector General to investigate alleged wrongdoing….and other common sense reforms.

The only reason the Democrats are even talking about the monster under the bed is because of their leader,  Mike Madigan. The speaker is embroiled in a scandal involving lobbying irregularities. His total rule of Springfield will continue on, unabated, even after he is re-elected in November. That is unless he is indicted.

I say every lawmaker gets 12 years in office. It was never supposed to be a career. Rather, it works best when people serve and move on…and specifically not move on as a high-paying lobbyist so they can influence their former colleagues.

This won’t happen soon….if ever…as long as Illinois continues to suffer from one-party rule.
