There was a
time when my wife and I would talk about our retirement plans.
Those
discussions always included these elements. Living in
Fairfield. Buying a house close to downtown. Walking to church.
And the most
significant dream was: being able to spend the afternoon in downtown during the
annual homecoming parade. We also loved the mere idea of being at the Train
Yard to watch a good high school football game. We thought we would proudly
someday put a flag in front of the house to show our loyalty to the Mighty
Mules.
Interestingly,
all those dreams will come to pass this week. It makes me happy.
It inspires.
I
have to tell you, the single act of Kristi Hornung, giving the portrait of the
Mules taking the field produced by Spencer Meagher from the Paint Out to Coach
Justin Townsend, was simply a great way to start the week.
But for a
moment, consider what lies before us. On Friday afternoon a large parade will
circle through downtown with bands and sirens and excitement…and entire
trailers of seasoned citizens who are graduates of FCHS proudly showing off their community and
school pride. The streets will be lined with folks in red and black…..the store
front windows will be adorned with messages of support.
And then, on
Friday night, for the second season in a row, we will be treated to an
undefeated Fairfield team in a homecoming game. Look out Eldorado. This Mule
team is special.
It’s what we
wanted….what we dreamed before moving back to Wayne County.
And now,
like a dream, it’s come to pass.
Great article, Dr. Mike! RED & BLACK ON THE ATTACK! GO MULES!
