Governor
J.B. Pritzker has a message for Southern Illinois. His administration made the call to cancel the Confederate Railroad
concert at the Du Quoin State Fair. Pritzker made the decision…not fair
officials.. His staff told Representative Terri Bryant this was a “teachable
moment” for all of us within the sound of my voice.
Bryant, a
Republican from Murphysboro, asked for the meeting in Chicago on Monday to get
an explanation for the cancellation of the country act’s contract. She wanted to
know why Confederate Railroad was unacceptable…while Snoop Dogg will headline
the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.
The answer
was succinct. The country group uses two small replicas of the “Stars and Bars”
on their logo….and the Governor has a policy against the use of that symbol of
the Confederacy. So the act was removed from the fair.
Bryant
wanted to know what the standing policy was on Rap Artist Snoop Dogg’s use of an album cover where he is standing over the
corpse of the current President of the United States. The Governor’s staff said
there was no policy against depicting the assassination of the leader of the
free world.
This is
stupefying. Snoop is a pot-smoking misogynist. Confederate Railroad issued a
statement saying God will lead them through this mess and urged their fans to
go ahead and attend the Du Quoin State Fair in support of live country music.
A “teachable
moment?” Southern Illinois does not need to be schooled by a Governor who won
only 16 of the 102 counties in the state…A Governor who can’t seem to find any
of the five toilets that used to be in his personal mansion.
I don’t know
about you…but I don’t need to be schooled by J.B. Pritzker.
While I didn't see the need to drop Confederate Railroad from the fair, I do agree with his underlying agenda of ridding our state of the confederate flag.
ReplyDeleteToo many, especially in our community fly that flag proudly. One on 1st street, and one on 9th street specifically. At times they are blatantly sold for profit across the street from our busiest gas station.
I am sure some white individuals will try to find a way of defending its use. And in doing so will show their lack of analytical thinking and understanding of what that flag means to many individuals in this country. Most importantly what message is sent about our community's diversity or our lack thereof when they see it flying proudly.

ReplyDeleteRight on the money Mike. We can't have the band with lyrics like "She never cried when Old Yeller died...", but we have Snoop Dog and lyrics I won't be able to quote here. A funny JB Pritzker meme I saw recently had JB and his big fat trust fund belly with the caption "I came here to increase taxes and eat Ho Ho's and I'm all out of Ho Ho's". Here's the teachable moment from Pritzker, when you run a RINO on the Republican side, many Republicans stay home and you end up with a JB Pritzker in charge...working hard to implement a radical agenda each and every day.
