I know this
one is going to be unpopular, but I’m not trying to win anything…so here goes…
Last week
the Mrs. and I walked to one of the crosswalks in downtown Fairfield and stood
there trying to get across the street. It took several minutes to cross.
While
technically I am not physically feeble, I am considered to be a senior citizen.
I certainly use that when there’s a senior menu.
Anyway, we
stood there while car after car after car zoomed by.
I realize
Main and Delaware are both considered state highways. ..but I also know they go
through a downtown shopping area.
Not one car
considered braking for us in the crosswalk.
They stopped
to read a piece of cardboard in a picture window, but they didn’t consider
stopping when someone was trying to get
across the street.
Heaven help
you if you hit someone like me while I am walking within the safety of a
clearly painted crosswalk. Not only will you likely get a ticket, you will
likely open yourself to other legal action.
Is it too
much to ask us to slow it down in our downtown and consider stopping for people
trying to get across the street in a marking crosswalk?
Are we
really in that much of a hurry?
The answer,
through my personal research, is yes; we are going way too fast downtown and
showing no consideration for pedestrians.
Give me a brake.
