There are
some very upset patrons of Major League Baseball concerning its policy of not
refunding ticket money in wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
I painfully
understand. We planned a trip to Milwaukee to see the Brewers play the Cards in
April. The word we got was that it was “postponed,” and not cancelled. That
means the Brewers hold onto my money.
That’s bad
business. These are not normal times and they certainly are not normal
postponements. If the season starts in May and the Brewers decide to
re-schedule the games with the Cardinals, I don’t know if I can move heaven and
Earth to be there.
The same
goes for thousands of other fans. More than $1-billion dollars in consumer
capital is tied up in tickets in America….to watch games that are stuck in
limbo because of the pandemic.
The economy
has cratered. People have lost lots of money from their investments and the
ball teams have the ticket money locked away, making interest on it. It is not
right and it's time for somebody to notice.
There are
other businesses rooting for postponement---namely Stubhub and other resellers
who don’t want to return the cash. They have their own staff to worry about.
That is of no concern to those of us who have been left hanging.
I want my
money.
