Frey Puts Her Toe In The Water

She might be the only person currently living in Wayne County to rate a page in Wikipedia.

Her name is Sarah Frey and I could talk for a while about her business accomplishments. But I won’t. I’ve known her for many years. Ever since she was named our outstanding alum at Frontier Community College in the early 2000s.
She is being touted for John Shimkus’ congressional seat. I find the prospect to be intriguing. She is a rags-to-riches businesswoman. She grows more pumpkins than any other farmer in the United States. Frey saved the family farm as a teenager and has flourished being featured on national advertising and as a guest lecturer at the Harvard Business School.

She isn’t commenting on the story that broke on a Champaign television station over the weekend….but it is obvious to me that she has her toe in the water. Republicans have few strong women in Congress. She can immediately speak to the trade war, agriculture and business.

I would think the only impediment would be her business. It is larger than you might think. Understated. Sitting in a complex between Keenes and Orchardville…not the average place you’d go looking for a leader for the national stage. She has brothers in the business----but make no mistake----Sarah runs it. She would have to divest herself somewhat.

Democrats were left flat-footed by Shimkus’ retirement. Probably most Republicans were too.  This is a hugely Republican district. The winner of the GOP primary would be the odds-on favorite to go to Congress.

Stay tuned.
