The Billboard

I was rather stunned when I saw the billboard on I-64 and I-55, just as I crossed the river, on my way home from St. Louis. It welcomes visitors to Illinois….”where you can get a safe, legal abortion.”

So, that’s what we have become-----The abortion state. 

The Governor and his party are readying a volley of new laws in response to several red states who have been assaulting Roe vs. Wade. The counter from Illinois includes new provisions requiring private insurance companies to cover abortion procedures…it repeals a ban on partial birth abortions and it lets non-doctors supervise the aborting of fetuses.

Oh,  there’s more…minors will be allowed to have an abortion without parental consultation….It requires medical professionals to participate in abortions, even if they are against it on moral grounds.

These bills will pass in the legislature….and then the Governor will make all of the bills into the law of the land. J.B. Pritzker has said----and I quote---he will make Illinois the most progressive state in the nation for access to reproductive health care.

Isn’t it amazing the diversity we can see on each side of the Mississippi? In Missouri they are making it impossible to get an abortion after eight weeks of pregnancy. In Illinois we welcome you. Full term? Not a problem. You don’t even need a doctor over here. And we will fire anybody at the hospital that doesn’t want to help.

And the darndest thing about it…..we seem to be proud of it.
