Parking Abuse Could Cost

One more star for Secretary of State Jesse White’s crown….

He is cracking down on the folks who illegally park in spaces reserved for persons with disabilities at shopping centers during this holiday season.
This kind of law-breaking can come in many ways…

Persons misusing a placard face a six-month driver’s license suspension and a $600 fine. Repeat violators will face a one-year driver’s license suspension and a $750 fine ….For third or subsequent offenses violators will face a $1000 fine plus a one-year driver’s license revocation. The fine for parking in an accessible parking space without a disability placard or a fraudulent placard can result in a $2500 fine and one-year revocation of a driver’s license. Serious penalties…

We all know people who violate these laws. You know, using your dead step father’s placard to get good parking… That’s the person that needs to be taught a lesson.
There are over a half million permanent disability placards rolling around the state. My guess is that a large number of them are being misused. Remember---when someone who is not disabled soaks up a disabled parking spot, the people who need the spot do without.

Jesse White has made it easy for you to squeal on the folks abusing this system.
Please consider doing just that. Squeal by calling 217-785-0309. Have information ready---have the placard or license plate numbers and the location of the vehicle to share with the Secretary of State. Help White as he tries to enforce the laws on the books and give people with legitimate disabilities a parking spot closer to the front door.

It’s fair and it’s the law.

  1. Why doesn't he crack down on people who are abusing their rights as parents? You have people right here in good ole Fairfield who have taken advantage just because they think they can, some one who has 6 maybe 7 contempt tickets for not letting the other parent see their children just because they think they can police aren't writing tickets cause they might have to do their job and then you've got a states Attorney who isn't even done anything about the 1st ticket! It's all politics, it is a judge's order they have broken but yet nothing is being done about this and its not just a random case its happening every day all over the place, no one says anything, Do a judge words not mean anything? You want us all to worry about where someone parks?! Wow! I haven't seen anyone around here parking in the wrong spot! But then again would it really matter in good ol Fairfield?, home of the friendly people?!why don't you talk about things that are real, things in this town that are happening illegally and all the assholes who are breaking laws and getting by with it?!
