Tonight
Republicans will start their national convention and I won’t be watching.
Didn’t watch a minute of the Democrats last week. This from a guy who literally
watched gavel-to-gavel coverage in years past.
I just can’t
find the enthusiasm watching staged moments…productions instead of live
communication. I really liked the demonstrations on the convention floor….the
corny speeches made by each state spokesperson voting on the nominees…the
balloons falling in a packed convention center.
I just can’t
get into the conventions becoming “Zoom” events.
Washington
Post “conservative opinion writer” Jennifer Rubin claims she was so moved by
this week’s Democratic National Convention that she cried more than a dozen
times during the four night event.
There are
therapists for that kind of emotional duress.
I know the
pandemic has changed things. It isn’t just the conventions. I’m having trouble
with goofy cutouts behind home plate as I’m trying to watch baseball’s mini-season.
None of it seems real to me.
I am
genuinely interested in who becomes president…I’ll certainly vote, in person,
on November 3rd. There is nothing that will be said at these
conventions that will change the way I’m thinking.
…certainly
not sanitized and sterile speeches streamed from people’s basements.
