A few weeks
back we had a poll question on our Facebook page concerning the establishment
of a Senior Citizen Center in Fairfield. There was a robust response. Almost
three-out-of-every-four people - said they were for finding financial support
for such a center.
That brings
me to a social media post this weekend by the Wayne County Treasurer Donna
Masterson. She said seniors deserve a facility to call their own. I couldn’t
agree more.
Masterson
has done some research and found there might be funds to build a kitchen and to
subsidize meals. The problem is the lack of a permanent facility. The Elks have
been a gracious host….but a true home for seniors is needed.
That brings
Masterson to the $100-thousand dollar question.
Can we raise
$100- thousand dollars to purchase a building for our seniors? The center could
also be used for community needs.
I have
called Masterson. I told her I want in. I’m already a senior myself and
committed to live the rest of my days here. Fairfield is an aging community. We
need this.
We need to
start the effort to raise money in a fundraiser. If our poll is accurate, this
could succeed. There are resources in this community and it is time to tap them
in an effort to make a Senior Citizen Center here a reality.
