The State of Labor

Today we salute labor in our country.

I’m not throwing a bunch of data at you. I can say that if you look critically at the numbers, there are more jobs than people to fill them in this country. And the amount of middle level jobs, requiring some college, are exploding.

We are so fortunate to have a community college in our backyard. So fortunate that the city fathers and the CEO of the Illinois Eastern Community College had the foresight to purchase the Sanyo Building back in 2003 allowing a whole generation of young folks the opportunity to gain skills that gave them a foothold in the job market.

I don’t want to make this a Trump thing. But the simple fact that we are moving towards energy independence, have the lowest unemployment rate in recent memory in African-American, Hispanic and youth employment is hard to deny. Certainly, his detractors would have another club to beat him with---if these things were going so well. His recent renegotiation of the NAFTA agreement is yet another campaign promise kept.

Unions have sustained a hit with a Supreme Court ruling taking away mandatory membership for workers in a union shop. While I understand the need for a strong union, I am more keen on individual freedom.

The American worker is the best in the world. And to show my support, I look specifically for American made products.

You should too.
