Memorial Day Massacre

By yesterday morning, 25 were shot-----five were shot dead.

This isn’t a Memorial Day message about our fighting men and women in the Middle East. While we should be focused on their real and heroic sacrifices for our country, sadly, the body count comes from Chicago.

In other words, it’s safer in Fallujah than it is on the Windy City’s southside.

Yes, right here in our state. And the Memorial Day weekend isn’t even over. More have likely been shot or died. I can’t keep up with the body count.

I’m willing to bet the farm that Chicago’s new mayor will use the news to declare the need for tougher gun controls for a city that already has them. This will be mentioned in the last days of the legislative session as subtext for new gun laws.

The legislature has its hands full with recreational pot, a balanced budget, and new tax plan, and sports betting---- but watch out for Senate Bill 1966 which will make gun transfers nearly impossible  There are also possible fee increases for FOID cards.

I have never understood the connection. People die in Chicago….hundreds a year.

None of them have legal weapons….and yet….all of the potential legislation would cost me more money to possess a firearm….or make it illegal if I want to pass along the family firearms to my sons.

Memorial Day is about the people who used weapons to insure our freedom. They gave their lives for a Constitution which secures our right to own guns. 

Let’s honor their memory by doing what we can to defend our constitutional rights.
