“Reports of
my demise have been greatly exaggerated.”
The quote
from the great Mark Twain. He was told a newspaper had printed a story on his
death. The best I could do is an unconfirmed report of my illness on the front
page locally..
I’m so very
happy to be in a studio today on the Hill, east of Fairfield. I won’t bore you
with all the details of last week for me, but I can tell you it had a profound
impact on me.
My infected
foot was bombarded by heavy duty antibiotics in creating a three day stretch
where I consistently popped 103-plus fevers. The misery was profound. You can’t
have pleasant dreams with such a fever. Rather, you obcess on the people who you
knew who didn’t survive such a blood infection. You fret you won’t get to ever
hunt again. My wife was there every minute…a rock throughout.
It was a
very difficult week.
The good
part of this story is the problem was immediately recognized and handled by Dr.
Patrick Molt. What an incredible blessing to this community he is…
I was
released on Sunday knowing my NFL placekicking dream was over and I might never
get the invitation to Dance with the Stars.
I am most
grateful for Dave Land and Ken Otey filling in for me. Humbled by the respect
shown during my interaction with all of the employees at Fairfield Memorial
Hospital. I would not have received this level of care in St. Louis.
So, I’m
easing back in. And hope to get to speed by the end of the week.
If Carol
allows.
Does Carol know you are up this early working? Glad you are on the mend!
