I haven’t
mentioned that we have two basset hounds, Cletus and Jojo. We rescued them and
they have a significant place in our lives.
I tell you
that in order to broach a topic that has bothered me for years. That is the
loud criticism of the Wayne County Humane Society. I just don’t get it.
Spiro T.
Agnew was hounded out of office as Richard Nixon’s vice president---but Agnew
had one of the most interesting uses of alliteration--in condemning the media
for their attacks.
They
were---quote---“nattering nabobs of negativism.” Always loved that quote.
Agnew’s
words apply here. Why you would spend time bashing a private organization that contract
s with the city and county to help animals is beyond me.
I looked at
the stats and they are most impressive. This is an organization operated by
people who give of their time freely to help find homes for dogs and cats.
From January
until this week---The Wayne County Humane Society has taken in 284 animals to
their shelter.----and 149 were adopted out.
The shelter
is a “no kill” shelter. If a dog or cat is not adopted locally, the Humane
Society has a number of rescue organizations and foster homes.
The local humane
society has some investments. As best I can tell, they manage them well.
If Cletus and Jojo dug their way out of our
backyard, I am comfortable that they would be well cared for at the Wayne
County Humane Society until I could get there to reclaim them.
Enough
negativism. Stop being a nattering nabob.
Well said. Maybe the nattering nabobs of negativism should ask if there is anything they can do to help. There are many great animals there that would love to come to your home for some one on one attention. We all need to step back before we offer up criticism about the Humane Society. Shelters can be stressful for animals. I adopted a dog from there.
