DREITHISMS

Long ago, many miles from here, I was a humble radio broadcaster and teacher. Often I would try to accentuate a point in class by saying---

"Belly up to the trough of knowledge...and slurp."

Since then I have coined a few other less colorful phrases, some prompted by the times.

Shortly after moving to Snyder, Texas, I became an observer in what it was to be a Texan. That prompted the following quote....

“I have observed that most West Texas towns have abandoned Air Force Bases….and thriving Sonic Drive-ins. That means we have abandoned runways but no shortage of Chili Cheese Tots.”

And then there was this....

“My study of Texans has led me to three conclusions----They love their state flag, the Dallas Cowboys---and gravy---not necessarily in that order.”

And of course there was the David Koresh Branch Dividians and another such cult near San Angelo that crowded the airwaves for weeks...

“How do I define a cult?---Easy---When the large fence built around a church compound isn’t there to keep out visitors----It’s there to keep members in.

One of my other favorite quotes came when someone made a comment about my job performance at the college since moving from Illinois. I said---

“Resist taking a bow for your work---It only presents an opportunity for someone to kick you in the a#%.”

My point was simple----try not to lay on your own horn....otherwise someone will surely find fault with you.

I'm sure there are other Dreithisms floating out there. If you talk alot.....you sometimes say something prophetic. But most of the times you are only remembered for saying something stupid.
