Leadership Defined

I want to shine a light on those who are stoking the fire of optimism and hope in this time of upheaval. Adversity demands leadership.

Fairfield National Bank and Volunteers For A Progressive Fairfield both remind me of the words of Margaret  Thatcher…. “Don’t follow the crowd, let the crowd follow you.”

FNB has dedicated $100-thousand dollars to small business grants. The second $50-thousand-dollar round was announced last week to help businesses survive this crisis. The grants are doled out in $2000 increments. It’s a proactive approach to helping out and I think it is a brilliant example of community service.

On the diversionary side of the coin, kudos to the Volunteers for a Progressive Fairfield who devised and quickly implemented a way for local eateries to be highlighted as they provide carryout and drive thru service. The campaign, which starts today, is the “Shelter In And Win” contest. You can learn more on our newscasts or web page.
The idea is the important thing. The virus has many of us on the mat. A subtle diversion like this daily contest can help keep our spirits up while promoting what we have in local eateries. It’s a dual win.

Many times in my life adversity has ultimately been a blessing in disguise. It has also been a way to reveal my true friends. We are seeing that here.

Thank you to those who choose to lead.
