I want to
talk to the women for a moment about the significance of October and importance
of not taking a pass on your annual mammogram.
In a cancel
culture, it is so easy to just put it off for next year. That could be a fatal mistake.
October is
Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer can be beaten if discovered early.
The prime tool used by doctors is a non-invasive x-ray to detect cancer and other
abnormalities. Mammograms can detect cancer early –when it is most
treatable—long before it can be felt. If detected early, it opens a greater
range of potential treatments.
I’ve noticed
everyone seems to be living in fear. We are afraid of going out. Afraid of
interacting with others….and afraid of going anywhere near the hospital. We are
so fortunate to have a great hospital right here in Fairfield. They have an
accredited 3-D mammography truck that is in town three days a week.
There is no
real reason for delaying….or missing your scheduled mammogram. In fact, putting
it off using the pandemic as an excuse is hazardous to your health.
I respect
the danger of the virus. But we can’t live in fear.
I’m not
qualified to assess the risk. I have certainly never had a mammogram. I
understand they are no picnic.
But I think
if I were a woman…I’d listen to my medical doctor..and I wouldn’t use COVID-19
to keep me from my annual check-up.
