Never Forget

On this day 19 years ago I was only in my third month working at Frontier Community College. I was here alone. My family did not choose at that time to move with me which created some separation anxiety.

I had no idea how much that anxiety would multiply on September 11th, 2001.

I got a call at my office that a plane had hit one of the World Trade Towers early in the work day. I decided to walk over to the one TV we had on campus, in a cramped student lounge within the West Classroom Building. It was empty when I got there.

A few minutes later I watched as the second plane hit the other tower and remember the dread of thinking my teenaged sons were two hours away and we might only be moments away from war.

That’s when the lounge started to fill. By the time the Pentagon was hit, it was elbow-to-elbow and the silence in the room was deafening.  We just watched.

I remember putting out my American flag that night when I got home, . As terrible as the attacks were….for a moment in time….we were together…same as we were when Seal Team Six delivered the final retribution ten years later.

The world is full of bad guys who would love to do us harm.

Nineteen years ago, they succeeded and created an indelible memory.

One we must never forget.
