Phase Three---Not A Big Deal

Forgive me if I don’t seem overly excited that most of the State of Illinois is moving to Phase Three of the Governor’s Restore Illinois reopening today.

Truth is, most of the businesses being released to open in our area have already been open, just covertly….and the restrictions on dine-in dining are driving Illinois dollars over the Wabash River into Indiana.

I talked to a lot of people yesterday……and today’s date means very little to them.
In Fairfield, at least one restaurant allows inside dining all the time. Others are begging for picnic tables so they can serve outside.  The rest are just going to hope they can keep their businesses afloat for another month.

Just 40 miles east of here, over a hundred people can meet. They can dine in at Indiana’s restaurants. But not in the Land of Lincoln.

One hair salon owner here says she will open and follow all of the rules hoping to get back on her feet after two months of nothing. Another salon owner says she was going to be open today no matter what the Governor said.  Her attorney said she could  ignore the bloviation from Chicago.

You see? Nothing much has changed. Either you are following the rules….or you’re not…without any fear that anybody is going to do anything about it.

And what do we have to look forward to? Phase 4---which will allow gatherings of up to 50 people. To do that we must meet a complicated mish-mash of data un-understandable to the common man.

No, I’m not celebrating today. For me, and so many people…It’s really just more of the same…
