It all
happened at once.
At the same
time yesterday afternoon, the news came of the first COVID-19 positive case in Wayne County, the
power flickered, the Internet went out and cable television went kaput and we
became vulnerable.
I’m not a
very pleasant person lately and my wife and technology have been my anchors.
You take either and I can become most unpleasant. She can tell you about the
latter.
I was on an
important Zoom meeting. It crashed. That meant I could take in some
television…no, wait, if the Internet is gone, that means my cable and the streaming
services are gone. Know any good books?
In about an
hour’s time I felt threatened, frustrated, angry and finally…I came to my
senses.
There is a person
out there within the sound of my voice who feels all those things and so many
more emotions by virtue of testing positive for the coronavirus. She has
isolated herself at home but things could change and she certainly must feel
all those emotions that I foolishly experienced because my lame technology
failed. I was sweating the small stuff.
Shame on me. For a moment we need to look at the big picture.
We might
think…heck it's only one person out of 16,332 people in the county. But to that
person…who got the news yesterday…..and the people around her….it’s a pretty
big deal.
And it all
happened at once.
