For the
first time in my life, I have gone cold turkey on TV for over a month. And my
life is rich and full.
I am a child of Captain Kangaroo. I remember Jack Paar.
I ate TV dinners.
Moving here continues
in slow motion because we are in the process of selling our St. Louis house and
renovating the house we bought here in Fairfield. I still live out of boxes.
But I haven’t watched any television since coming here, period.
So what am I
missing?
At this time
of year, I would be watching lots of Cardinal baseball. But I have supplanted
that time by listening closely to 105.9. I’m listening to baseball, but I’m
also listening to the technology that interacts between the Cardinal baseball
network and our WOKZ studio. We have made some changes. I can’t do anything about
Mike Shannon. Love him, but maybe it’s time for him to go to the porch.
I also
watched a lot of Netflix on my son’s account.
Yep, I’m
that cheap.
In order to
please my wife (because I’m a pleaser) I watch a lot of British programs like “The
Crown,” and Downton Abbey.
For someone
who grew up near Barnhill, my wife has a remarkable ability to spout useless information
about the British crown. I don’t pretend to understand. I just access television
programs that feed that obsession. Again. I’m a gem.
I also watch
a lot of cable news. It usually makes me talk to the TV. Sometimes I talk loud
to the TV. If I watch MSNBC, I tend to yell at the TV.
That prompts
my wife to turn off the TV.
Who knows
when my flat screen will get plugged in again?
In the
meantime, please don’t tell me anything about the Bachelorette.
I need
something to look forward to…
