Business has
not been good for the last three weeks for some of this region’s best merchants.
And the prospect of another 30-days of sequester doesn’t help.
But I have
some figures that might be of interest. Wayne County residents will shortly
have close to $17-million extra dollars
to spend.
Do the math:
If you look up the total population of the county, figure out how many are 18
and younger….The remaining people are adults. Multiply the number of adults by
$1,200 and you get how much money is coming to the county in personal federal
payments per adult. Multiply the number of children by $500 and you get the
total.
It might be
inexact….but it is a positive and we need some of that.
There are
some businesses that won’t be able to take advantage of the situation, but
there will be many more that will. Find them. We need for them to survive and stay
in business on the other side of this crisis.
The last
thing I would like to see is all of this money go to Bentonville, Arkansas.
Trust me, Sam’s kids are going to be just fine. Make a conscious effort to
spend some of your personal federal payment with the stores that were built
through the hard work of locals.
We can’t be
certain this tsunami is going to be put to bed by the end of the month. We can
do our part to save local commerce.
I ask you to
think about that when you get your check. Please.
