Mocking The Military?

At first blush I thought the viral comments by FOX sportscasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman were meant to  backhand our military as we close in on Veterans Day.

But now I know this is a true tempest in a teapot.

Buck and Aikman’s candid comments about a military flyover were sarcastic and considered in some quarters to be inflammatory.

So what did they say?

As four military planes flew over an empty stadium prior to a football game in Tampa, the leaked audio has Aikman saying…

“There’s a lot of jet fuel for a little flyover”….to which Buck replied, “That’s your hard earned money at work.”  Aikman goes on to say such flyovers won’t happen if the Democrats win the White House.

Personally, I’ve commissioned flyovers with the Air Force. I stopped college students from getting Veteran’s Day off at a college in Texas and forced them instead to go class, then show up for a ceremony honoring veterans which concluded with a flyover. It was most impressive. The Air Force used  it as a training mission.

As it turns out, the Buck-Aikman audio isn’t a hot mic moment. It was audio recorded during a rehearsal. Someone in the truck at Fox decided to leak the exchange to draw fire on the announcing duo.

Here’s the only outcome from the episode.

Someone’s fixin’ to lose their job at FOX.
