I do not
want to be….as former Vice President Spiro T. Agnew coined it…a “nattering
nabob of negativism.” It's so easy to fall into the trap because there’s so
much negative energy around us.
So, today, I
want to extol the virtue of some people who deserve to take a bow for their
positive energy.
Step forward
Gordy Toombs and his wife Diana. They are among the most positive folks in
town. They deserve to take a bow for
giving up an outside wall of their business to shine a light on Fairfield’s
graduating seniors. Same goes for Lori Robson and others who did the same thing
in downtown business windows.
And while we
are at it, two area businesses provided hundreds of meals to people who were
sheltered-in-place. Well done, Big Boy Barbeque and Jovalou Cusine and
Cocktails.
Then there
are the folks that quietly work to keep the downtown area looking good. Thank
you to Preston and Reta Mathews who spruce up Freedom Park and Carol Vaughan
and her crew who do the same at Wasson Park.
There were
many responsible for the positive vibes that came from the Wayne County Law
Enforcement Appreciation Day. Liz Ann Woodrow, Kelly Locey and Ken Otey to just
name a few. They got the support of our elected officials and did a great job.
You know,
it's so easy being negative. Makes me think of the words of one of my mentors,
John Maxwell who said:
“Nobody can
motivate himself in a positive direction when continually using negative
words.”
