First Statues....Then People

I’ve had a few folks say to me----“Hey Mike, lighten up. You are too focused on civil unrest and the desecration of hundred year old statues.”

But I won’t stop. It seems nobody on the right is standing up to those who indiscriminately topple symbols of our past. Republicans are silent, for the most part.

History is replete with examples where this lawlessness leads. As Christopher Bedford of The Federalist so eloquently wrote this week:

“The symbols of a people never satisfy. People themselves must always come next.”

It was three years ago when mob vandalism started with an unnamed Confederate soldier. Next it was Robert E. Lee, and other southern generals. When the president worried out loud of his fear that Thomas Jefferson and George Washington would be next, the left scoffed.

Well this week U.S. Grant was a target. The World War II Memorial was defaced as was the Lincoln Memorial.

What’s next? Civil Rights activist Shaun King now says depictions of a white Jesus must be torn down. He’s calling for the destruction of all murals and stained glass windows because they further the cause of “white supremacy.”

When you read people like King, you can’t laugh it off.

You stand up.

Even if you are alone.
