Thursday’s
Governor’s press conference was like so much of life these days. It was like
Groundhog day….the movie. Predictable. The same thing…over and over. Another
five weeks of this…..
Because of
the extension of the stay-in-place order, our state representative Darren
Bailey swiftly filed suit against the Governor in Clay County Circuit court. In
the filing, Bailey said J. B. Pritzker has abused his power by extending the stay-in-place order through the end of May. Bailey says Pritzker doesn’t have
the authority to do so, that anything beyond 30 days is not legal.
I think the
Governor would be well served to find a way to convene the legislature. While
his actions might be well meaning and based on the data presented to him, he
would be wise to include the legislature in such broad, sweeping and economically
damaging order.
Bailey says
the Governor hasn’t been out of Chicago in days….maybe weeks. And that makes it
hard for him to understand the plight of the folks down here where the only serious
outbreaks can be traced to nursing homes in Jefferson and Jasper counties.
He has a
point. As I have said before….what’s right for Cook County probably isn’t the
right thing for us.
As I
listened to the Governor yesterday, I kept thinking of native Chicagoan Bill
Murray in the aforementioned movie. The radio clicks on at 6 AM.
Sonny and
Cher just keep singing…
“Babe….I got you babe.”
