Score it
Darren Bailey one, J.B. Pritzker 0.
Our current
state representative went to court yesterday and won in his effort to legally
thwart the Governor’s continuation of the Stay-At-Home order. I wasn’t
surprised….but others in Chicago, Springfield and even our own little town had
to be shocked.
Pritzker has
the legal girth of the entire government. Bailey was paying for his own lawyer.
The representative wants the legislature to weigh in. You know, co-equal
branches of government with the executive branch? He contended the Governor had
30 days of authority in the COVID-19 emergency. That time expired on April 8th.
A Clay
County judge agreed with Bailey.
Pritzker
had called the suit “a political maneuver.” If forcing the legislature to weigh
in on decisions that have a profound impact on 12.6 million Illinoisans is a
maneuver, then call me political.
Specifically,
I found last night’s column in the Wayne County Press by Dr. D. M. Mills to be
particularly interesting. Mills is obviously no fan of Representative Bailey.
He referred to Bailey’s “antics,” comparing the suit to the life and times
of Louisville’s infamous Johnny Bob
Harrell. Bailey is a conservative farmer. Harrell was a criminal white
supremacist.
Mills wrote
Bailey’s lawsuit would most likely “go down in the ash heap of history to join Harrell’s
legacy.”
Oh my.
I think I’d
walk that one back, Doc.
