As it has
been pointed out countless times, I am not a medical doctor but I have a
prescription for you.
Pay heed to my
advice.
Stop
watching cable news. It is designed to depress.
Start
finding movies that lift your spirit or make you laugh. You need to laugh. I’ve
noticed less and less levity in my life and the people around me.
My research
indicates a good, hearty laugh helps relieve physical tension and stress and
boosts your immune system. It is called therapeutic humor. Laughter decreases
stress and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus
improving resistance to disease.
Some suggest
that an apple a day keeps the doctor away. I subscribe to laughter being the
best medicine.
I had a
close friend who was in the hospital for an extended period of time. I didn’t
send him flowers. I sent him “Young Frankenstein,” the Mel Brooks comedy. If he
would have stayed in the hospital longer, he would have gotten the Three
Stooges and maybe even W. C. Fields.
Long after
his recovery, he thanked me and said the movie changed his attitude and helped
change his prognosis. His words, not mine.
Take this
prescription from me on this day as we stare down a challenge.
