Ronald
Reagan was the author of the 11th Commandment. He coined it while on
the stump to be elected to the Governor’s mansion in California. It was 1966.
Reagan said, and I quote, “Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican.”
Trust me,
that commandment is not being adhered to in Southeastern Illinois as the races
heat up for open seats in the state legislature.
One only has
to read the Facebook posts of a few involved to see the outright animosity as
primary election day approaches on March 17th. By the way, you can
vote early right now.
It’s clear
the wounds inflicted to party regulars when Darren Bailey shocked incumbent
Representative David Reis back in 2018 have not healed. You will remember that
Bailey hammered Reis with 57-percent of the Republican primary vote.
Bailey is
now running for the Senate and three Republicans are fighting over his old seat
in the 109th district. Initially Bailey endorsed Fairfield Minister
Cory Musgrave, who dropped out of the race.
The shots
are being fired between Musgrave and Richland County Sheriff Andy Hires.
Musgrave posted that Hires was corrupt. Hires blasted back that the comments
were beneath the minister. He urged Musgrave to—quote---“Come out of the dark
place you are in, before you can not find your way out.”
from Bailey who seems totally proficient in his knowledge of the ten
commandments.
He also seems to have a pretty good grip on the 11th.
