The City of
Fairfield has dumped thousands of dollars down a hole.
Please tell
me the Dan Schuering era is over. It should be. The Springfield attorney, who
has rolled up fees north of $50-thousand dollars, is making a bad situation,
worse.
Wednesday
night Schuering called a 2015 city ordinance, an “alleged ordinance.” He
advised the council’s TIF committee to not repeal it, because that would make
it more difficult to defend in court. Follow that logic.
Hear me. Schuering
arrived here in February of 2018. Nothing meaningful has been resolved since
then. The only thing that was obvious on Wednesday night was the city is
spending TIF money at a disturbing clip. Over a million was approved and sent
on to the full city council this week alone.
The whole
topic of surplus funds for the schools and other taxing districts is a moot
point. There won’t be any surplus left soon. The high school bellied up to the
trough quickly and got a couple of hundred thousand to air condition the Mule
Barn. They were smart. The rest of the taxing districts are going end up with squat.
This is a
debacle. The TIF committee knows it. The Mayor is unwilling to admit it and the
taxpayers who wander into these meetings leave asking the same question…
Why is Dan
Schuering still here?
The Mayor
says he’s gone in April.
How about
right now?
