We will not
be live streaming tonight’s basketball game at the Carmi Regional between
Fairfield and Carmi White County. It is not because we don’t want to….we are
not allowed. Just like we were denied the opportunity to do post-season
football.
Starting
last fall, the radio station has committed resources to provide video of all
FCHS football and boys basketball games. We have been the voice of the Mules
since 1953. But a subscription service based in Indianapolis has secured a
relationship with the Illinois High School Association which gives them
exclusive rights to the video in post-season.
We are the
only entity to have done all 31 Mules games. Our broadcast team will be there
to provide the radio play-by-play, but we will be banned from serving up the
game on video because of the subscription network which has done five FCHS games
this year.
I think
there is something wrong with this picture.
The network
has a relationship with the Illinois High School Association. I’m not sure I
understand where the money goes. You can buy the Mules for $10.99 a month…or
$69.99 a year. Again, the service only did five Fairfield basketball games.
I checked.
Not a penny has gone to FCHS. I called
the Illinois High School Association to ask where the money goes…
I’m still
waiting for a response.
