Snowden Wants To Come Home

Edward Snowden says he would like to come home. He’s the former National Security Agency contractor who copied and leaked highly classified information from the agency in 2013…fleeing to Russia to avoid prosecution.

Tuesday, he released a book about his famous leak of documents about government surveillance and gave an interview to CBS to express his interest in returning home….but only if he could be assured of a fair trial.

Snowden’s case has always mystified me. Forbes described him as a 29-year-old high school drop-out making more as a low-level contractor than any senior manager in the government short of the President himself. Snowden’s reported salary was $200,000.

He exposed the NSA’s surveillance activities which were, for obvious reasons, highly classified. This occurred on President Obama’s watch. In fact, Snowden reportedly tried to get the kind of clemency granted to fellow leaker Chelsea Manning, but got nowhere with Obama.

Snowden’s new book entitled, “Permanent Record,” allegedly violates more of the agreements he signed when he took over his job as a contractor for the government.

I don’t know how such important information could have been shared with someone down the food chain as far as Edward Snowden. I’m baffled at his  income. It’s embarrassing that our government was so lax in protecting our secrets.

Unlike others, I do not see Snowden as a hero.
