I will
likely see you this weekend……if not at Founder’s Day….I’ll see you at the local
gas station. Take my advice and fill up all of your tanks because come Monday,
you will be paying an additional 19-cents-a-gallon for your gasoline. It's even
worse if you drive a diesel. That’s going up an additional 24-cents a gallon.
So I can
predict a few things…it won’t be long before we are consistently over
$3-dollars-a-gallon for cars….and over-the-road truckers will be doing all of
their fuel purchases in either Missouri or Indiana depending on their
direction. They’d be stupid to fill up along the Interstate inside Illinois.
You take the
robbery at the pump, couple it with increases for vehicle registration and
tobacco products and you get some part of the $45-billion dollars that the
Governor is pledging for capital projects in the state. That’s what we
need---new bricks and mortar at local colleges. Enrollments are continuing to
track down as students escape Illinois for lower tuition elsewhere.
We are
watching the arrogance of one-party rule. Nothing is on the chopping block. We
continue to spend like drunk sailors on leave. The bills just keep mounting and
we just keep buying shots.
An announced
boycott of gasoline next week is just foolishness. We need gas to get to work
and get the kids to the dentist. But you can do one smart thing as we approach
Monday morning.
Join me in
line at the filling station this weekend to get one last tank before J.B. reaches
into your pockets. Get used to it. He’s gonna need a lot more cash just to pay
the interest on the bills we will generate over the next three years.
Just taxing
pot isn’t going to get ‘er done.
