Governor Comes Through on Campaign Promise

Well the new “Fair Tax” is on its way to voters in Illinois. In November 2020, we will get the opportunity to change the way the state taxes our income.

I can’t wait to see how they sell this one.

Already, the Governor has made some rather remarkable claims. He says it will only increase taxes on the top five percent of Illinoisans and generate over $3-billion dollars to help pay down our $15-billion dollar debt. What it really does is give the dominant party the opportunity to continue to spend like drunk sailors and merely adjust the rates each year to take care of the bar bill.

I remember when the lottery was going to save us----or at least save public education. That money all got soaked up in new spending….and then we hired a private company to operate it. So much for trust in our legislature….

The Governor wants fairness. I want fairness too. If I had pulled the toilet in my house in order to get out of property taxes, I’d be busting rocks at Menard. He gets the Governor’s Mansion.

The bill passed this weekend on a 73-44 roll call vote, does not mention tax rates or levels of income. Those details come in later legislation, after they have pulled the rug over the eyes of Illinois’ voters.

To be clear, the Governor told us this was where we were going. He is true to his word. Now all he has to do is convince a majority of the people left in the state to vote for his brand of fairness.

If you believe it won’t eventually cost you more----I’ve got a deed to a bridge over the Little Wabash.

Wanna talk?
