There are
those who want to change the Constitution of the United States to eliminate the
Electoral College which elects our presidents. Of course, the people who are
vocalizing their opposition lost the last election.
I, for one,
support The Constitution, as every federal officeholder is sworn to do.
But I want
to take it a step further. Can we get an electoral college in the State of
Illinois----because the whole concept would possibly save this dying state.
Simply
stated, in their infinite wisdom, the founding fathers wanted a mechanism that
would give all of the people in this country, whether they lived in New York
City….or Bone Gap Illinois….the ability to have a say in their national
leadership.
If there
hadn’t been an electoral college in the last presidential election, Donald
Trump and Hillary Clinton would have only visited New York, California, Texas,
Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio…..and Chicago Illinois. Nothing south of Joliet.
If only
there was an electoral college established within this state’s 102 counties.
Clinton won the popular vote by 900,000 votes----but over 75-percent of the
state was awash in red. Trump won the vast majority of the county’s in Illinois
led by his 84-percent victory in Wayne County.
Geographically,
Illinois leans right. Throw in Chicago and pockets in the Metro-East and Peoria….and
you get the leaders we have suffered through for decades.
I find the
whining about the Electoral College interesting….not irritating.
It reminds
me of the words of then-President Obama when he once said, with attitude….”Elections
have consequences.”
They
certainly do.
