A Missouri
man was ordered to watch the Disney movie “Bambi” each month for a year while
being incarcerated for poaching.
That made
the story interesting. But the details are sickening. David Berry Jr. is only
going to face a year in prison, watching Disney once a month, for what is
considered the largest poaching case in Missouri history.
Berry and
his gang didn’t even use the deer meat. They decapitated the venison and left
the bodies to rot. They did their dirty work at night roling up a body count of
over 100 deer.
I don’t mind
telling you that this kind of crime makes my blood boil.
I’m a deer
hunter…not much of a killer….and I follow the letter of the law. I wear my
licenses and tags around my neck. I adhere to the dates, times, clothing,
ammo….on and on and on. I do it because it is a privilege, not a right. I do it
so I can be part of nature.
I don’t
shoot anything that I don’t process and consume.
This guy
needs more than the reported $51,000 dollars in fines and jail time. He and his
buddies flouted the law. They knew the rules. They were on a killing spree and
deserved to do hard time…..not 12 months with popcorn and a movie.
Missouri
needed to make an example of them.
Instead of
monthly Bambi in the jail theater….they needed some serious time.
If I was the
judge I would have thrown the book at them hoping for a new nickname….
Thumper.
